Islam does not tell us to shun them or be at war with them 24/7. We are allowed to live as a community together with them but each allowing the other to practice their own faiths with mutual respect and courtesy.

Qul yaa ayyuhal kaafiruun
[Say: O Disbelievers]
Laa a’budu maa ta’buduun
[I do not worship what you worship]
Walaa antum ‘aabidunna maa a’abud
[Nor do you worship what I worship]
Walaa ana ‘aa bidun maa ‘abadttum
[And I will not worship what you worship]
Walaa antum ‘aabiduuna maa a’abud
[Nor will you worship what I worship]
Lakum deenukum wa liya deen
Your way is yours, and my way is mine.]
