They stood near the main gate. The stalks of roses, the chocolates and books were ready to be distributed. They waited.
The group of undergraduates were Muslims. The sisters were in hijab. They were ready for the challenge.
“Hello, how are you? I’ve some gifts for you, please accept them,” one of them approached a young Indian lady who was on her way out of the campus. It was a public holiday.
“For me? But why?” the Indian lady asked with a smile.
“Today’s Maulidur Rasul, our prophet Nabi Muhammad’s birthday and we would like to celebrate it with you by giving you these,” explained the Muslim sister, as she handed over a stalk of red rose, some chocolates and a book about prophet Muhammad [pbuh] to the Indian lady.
“Oh, thank you! How nice. I’ve always wanted to know more about Nabi Muhammad,” replied the Indian lady as she accepted the gifts.
Soon the boxes were empty. All the items had been received by the surprised non Muslim undergraduates. Everyone had smiles on their faces. Happy were they who gave and happy were those who received.

The event took place on the 26th of February. Alhamdulillah, I was told by the organiser that everything went smoothly as planned.
It was a first for him and the members of his team.
The project would not have succeeded without the help and financial support of members of the public.

While some people were still arguing about whether Muslims should hold processions and talking about the so-called ‘banned’ Maulidur Rasul celebration at Penang, alhamdulillah there’re others who decided to celebrate it in a different way:
By sharing the celebration with their non Muslim friends.
By spreading the spirit of love and care for other people, which was practised by prophet Muhammad [pbuh] during his lifetime, through gifts and friendship.
By inviting non Muslims to know the prophet by reading about his greatness and why he was called the most influential person in history, in a book not written by a Muslim scholar but by a researcher who’s a Christian, Michael H. Hart.

I don’t know about you, but I’m impressed when I saw the photographs taken during the event.
For you do know that…
On Maulidur Rasul, we Malaysian Muslims have always congregated in mosques and suraus to listen to talks, to pray and to even to have a kenduri. That’s what we often do.
How many of us have actually taken the initiative of that free-from-having-to-go-to-work-day to introduce prophet Muhammad [pbuh] to our non Muslim friends? To invite them for talks about the most influential person in history, and to explain to them why we love and honour him so much?
Or do we as usual, continue to avoid them, and to continue to call them kafirs ?
Do we continue to tell them that they’re not welcomed in our mosques, not welcomed to join us in our ceramah, and that they’re destined for hell for being an unbeliever?
Have we developed that ‘I’m holier than thou’ mentality?
Do we really believe that Maulidur Rasul should be only for Muslims?
Well, it’s about time we reflect on our actions and belief system.

Congratulations to brother Kamaruddin Abdullah and his team, especially the young Muslim missionaries for their great work. They have thought out of the box and did something not many of us would ever dream of doing.
May Allah swt bless them for their efforts and open more doors for this project to be bigger and better in the coming years, insyaAllah.

Assalamualaikum~

Indeed, my heart goes all out for brother Kamaruddin Abdullah and his team. May Allah Almighty bless them for such simple yet extraordinary idea.

When I was reading the sentence where the Muslim sister presented those gifts to Indian woman, somehow I got anxious to read the next sentence, wondering what’s her reaction. But alhamduliah~

Such reminds me of my challenge of bringing the beautiful message of Islam to non-Muslims. Some people, the moment they hear anything about Islam, start to feel uneasy.
Perhaps it is more of how we present Islam to them than their reactions.

Aside, I totally love your second last paragraph’s statements. They strike the chord loudly.

This blog post article seriously really inspires me. Subhan’Allah, 2 thumbs up for that

Some of the most violent football hooligans in Britain head towards Manchester to support a march by the burgeoning English Defence League (EDL), while a woman dressed in a black hijab appears intimidated

On Platform One at Bolton station a mob of around 100 men punch the air in unison. The chant goes up: ‘Muslim bombers, off our streets, Muslim bombers off our streets…’
Their voices echo loudly and more men suddenly appear; startled passengers move aside. The group march forward waving St George Cross flags and holding up placards. The throng of men around me applaud. A train heading for Glasgow draws up on the opposite platform and the men turn as one, bursting into song: ‘Engelaand, Engelaand, Engelaand.’
Some of the men hide behind balaclavas, others wear black hoodies. A few speak on mobile phones, their hands pressed against their ears to block out the cacophony.
‘It’s already kicking off in Manchester. This could be tasty,’ shouts one. These are some of the most violent football hooligans in Britain and today they have joined together in an unprecedented show of strength. Standing shoulder to shoulder are notorious gangs - or ‘firms’ as they are known - such as Cardiff City’s Soul Crew, Bolton Wanderers’ Cuckoo Boys and Luton Town’s Men In Gear.
The gathering is remarkable, as on a match day these men would be fighting each other. But it is politics that has drawn them together. They are headed for Manchester to support a march by the burgeoning English Defence League.
The police are here in force, too. ‘Take that mask off,’ barks a sergeant to one young man. He does so immediately but protests: ‘Why are they allowed to wear burkas in public but we’re not allowed to cover our faces?’
‘Just do what you’re told,’ the policeman snaps back.

An EDL demonstrator is arrested at Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester in October

‘It’s always the same these days. One rule for them and another for us. I’m sick of this country,’ a man standing next to me says in a West Country accent.
He draws on a cigarette then flicks it to the ground in disgust. He starts to complain again but when the tannoy announces the arrival of the train to Manchester Piccadilly he raises his hands above his head and starts another favourite.
‘Rule Britannia, Britannia rule the waves… Britons never, never, never…’ His companions join in. As the train comes to a halt the crowd surges forward.
The carriages are almost full so the men pack themselves into the aisles followed by policemen speaking into radios. A group of lads drinking beer at a table eye the new contingent warily.
One man wearing a baseball cap clocks their fear and reassures them.
‘It’s all right lads, nothing to worry about. We’re protesting against radical Islam. Come and join us.’
Further up the carriage another bursts into song.
‘We had joy, we had fun, we had Muslims on the run,’ he starts up. Nobody joins in and a couple of his mates tell him to ’shut up’ as they point to a woman dressed in a black hijab sitting at a table.
A man standing close to her is masked and holds a placard. It has a picture of a Muslim woman crying with red blood streaming down her face. ‘Sharia law oppresses women!’ the slogan reads.
The rise of the English Defence League has been rapid. Since its formation at the start of the summer the group has organised nearly 20 major protests in Britain’s cities, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Luton, Nottingham, Glasgow and Swansea.
Its leaders are professional and articulate and they claim that the EDL is a peaceful, non-racist organisation. But having spent time with them, there is evidence that this movement has a more disturbing side. There is talk of the need for a ’street army’, and there are links with football hooligans and evidence that violent neo-Nazi groups including Combat 18, Blood and Honour and the British Freedom Fighters have been attending demos.
Violence has erupted at most of the EDL’s demonstrations. In total, nearly 200 people have been arrested and an array of weapons has been seized, including knuckledusters, a hammer, a chisel and a bottle of bleach.
As the EDL gains support across the UK, Muslims have already been targeted in unprovoked attacks. In the worst incident, a mob of 30 white and black youths is said to have surrounded Asian students near City University in central London and attacked them with metal poles, bricks and sticks while shouting racist abuse. Three people - two students and a passer-by who tried to intervene - were stabbed.
Following the Manchester protest, when 48 people were arrested during street violence, the Bolton Interfaith Council Executive issued a stark warning that race relations were under threat and Communities Secretary John Denham compared the EDL to Oswald Mosley’s Union of British Fascists, who ran amok in the Thirties. In response to these fears, the National Extremism Tactical Coordination Unit, a countrywide police team set up to combat domestic extremism, has been investigating the EDL.
‘The concern to me is how groups like this, either willingly or unwillingly, allow themselves to be exploited by very extreme right-wing groups like the National Front and the British Freedom Fighters,’ Metropolitan Police chief Sir Paul Stephenson has said.

Welsh Defence League members burn an anti-Nazi flag in Swansea

I had met the English Defence League for the first time in Luton three weeks before the Manchester demonstration. After several calls, key members agreed to talk on the condition that I did not identify them. We met at a derelict building close to Luton town centre. Eleven men turned up. All wore balaclavas, as they often do to hide their identities, and most had black EDL hoodies with ‘Luton Division’ written on the back. They’d made placards bearing slogans such as ‘Ban the Burka’.
The group’s self-proclaimed leader, who goes by the pseudonym Tommy Robinson, did most of the talking. A father of two, Robinson explained the background to the rise of the movement.
‘For more than a decade now there’s been tension in Luton between Muslim youths and whites. We all get on fine - black, white, Indian, Chinese… Everyone does, in fact, apart from these Muslim youths who’ve become extremely radicalised since the first Gulf War. This is because preachers of hate live in Luton and have been recruiting for radical Islamist groups for years. Our Government does nothing about them so we decided that we’d start protesting.’

EDL demonstrators in Birmingham in September

Robinson could barely conceal his anger as he explained that the spark for him had been the sight of radical Muslims protesting when soldiers paraded through the town on their regiment’s return from Afghanistan in May.
Following the incident Robinson set up a group called United People of Luton and, after linking up with a Birmingham-based organisation called British Citizens Against Muslim Extremists and another called Casuals United (largely made up of former football hooligans), they realised there was potential for a national movement.
‘We have nothing against Muslims, only those who preach hatred. They are traitors who should be hanged and we’ll keep taking to the streets until the Government kicks them out.’
More than 100 divisions have been set up across Britain and a careful co-ordination means the EDL is becoming efficient and a potential catch-all for every far-right organisation in Britain.
Robinson admits that he has attended BNP meetings in the past. Another prominent member and administrator of Luton EDL’s Facebook group is Davy Cooling, a BNP member. Sean Walsh, an activist for the EDL in Luton, is a member of the BNP’s Bedfordshire Facebook group.
Even within the EDL there are concerns over links to extremists. A former member called Paul Ray recently claimed that the group had been hijacked by BNP activists, including a man from Weston-super-Mare, Chris Renton, who helped set up the EDL website. Ironically, Ray himself has extremist contacts, including a German former neo-Nazi who is friends with Northern Ireland Loyalist Johnny ‘Mad Dog’ Adair.
Casuals United was the brainchild of Jeff Marsh, a convicted football hooligan from Cardiff City’s Soul Crew, one of the most feared gangs in Britain. Marsh operates behind the scenes, orchestrating activities with both Casuals United and the Welsh Defence League, a sister group of the EDL.
The public face of Casuals United is another Welshman called Mickey Smith. An avowed football hooligan, he is banned from Cardiff City’s football ground. Together, Marsh and Smith organise the 50 or so gangs actively recruiting members across the UK.
The EDL insists it is separate from Casuals United, but dig a little and it becomes clear they operate hand-in-hand. Joel Titus is a cocky but politically naive 18-year-old Arsenal fan of mixed race. He tells me that the EDL youth division he runs has over 300 members across the UK.
‘We want to hit every town and city in Britain,’ he says.
Titus became involved with the movement through Casuals United. And according to anti-fascism magazine Searchlight, his role is to recruit football hooligans.
He sticks to the ‘peaceful movement’ mantra but a text I later receive from him ahead of an EDL demo in London reveals his involvement with the hooligans. It reads: ‘Right lads, the “unofficial” meet for the 31st (London) is going to be 12 o’clock at The Hole In The Wall pub just outside Waterloo Station. I will be there just before that. Remember lads were (sic) going as Casuals Utd and if you could obtain a poppy to wear it would make us look good even if we are kicking off. lol. Cheers lads. Joel “Arsenal” Titus.’

EDL members meet at a rendezvous pub before travelling to Manchester

Alarmingly, the EDL is becoming more sophisticated and those orchestrating its activities at the top are far more astute than its foot soldiers. I meet two of the EDL’s key figures in a Covent Garden pub - a respectable looking man called Alan Lake, and a man who goes by the moniker ‘Kinana’.
Lake is a 45-year-old computer expert from Highgate, north London who runs a far-right website called Four Freedoms. This summer he contacted the EDL and offered to both fund and advise the movement.
‘Our leaders in this country no longer represent us,’ he says.
Lake’s aim is to unite the ‘thinkers’ and those prepared to take to the streets. He describes this marriage as ‘the perfect storm coming together’. Lake says that street violence is not desirable but sometimes inevitable.
‘There are issues when you are dealing with football thugs but what can we do?’
He criticises fascist organisations, however, and says he will only support the EDL so long as it doesn’t associate with the BNP. When I ask about extremists hijacking the movement, he says: ‘There are different groups infiltrating and trying to cause rifts by one means or another, or trying to waylay the organisation to different agendas. The intention is to exclude those groups and individuals.’
These men are outwardly intelligent and their political nous combined with the brawn of the casuals makes them a quasi-political force.
Britain’s neo-Nazis realise this. For Kevin Watmough, leader of the neo-Nazi British People’s Party and a former member of the National Front, the rise of the EDL is reminiscent of the Seventies.
‘The protests remind me of the National Front marches, but I wouldn’t march with the EDL because they have blacks as supporters,’ he told me.
But other neo-Nazis have joined EDL demos. These include members of Combat 18 and the British Freedom Fighters, who later posted videos of themselves on the internet.
Watmough lives in Bradford and can recall the 2001 riots, which came about as a result of tensions between whites and Muslims. Bradford, along with Oldham, another tinderbox northern city that witnessed riots in 2001, is a stated target for the EDL and Casuals United in 2010. Tension is likely here and in other towns where the EDL is also promoting spontaneous flash demos and the occupation of building sites for new mosques.
Professor Matthew Goodwin, an expert on far-right organisations who has advised the Home Office, says that the police are right to monitor the EDL and to take them seriously.
‘(The EDL) is now well-organised and not just a minor irritant. It has become a rallying point for a number of different groups and to have them marching through sensitive areas is a major concern.’
Communities Minister John Denham has also condemned the rise of the EDL: ‘If you look at the types of demonstrations they have organised, the language used and the targets chosen, it looks clear that it’s a tactic designed to provoke, to get a response. It’s designed to create violence. And we must all make sure this doesn’t happen.’

Malam semalam (18 Januari 2010), saya berkesempatan menghadiri satu sesi perbincangan tertutup berkenaan isu penggunaan kalimah Allah oleh orang bukan Islam di kediaman Ketua Umum PKR. (Berita di sini) Turut hadir pada malam itu adalah para pemimpin PKR dan PAS. Perbincangan yang berlanjutan hampir tiga jam itu berjalan dengan agak baik, tetapi saya dan rakan-rakan agak kecewa dengan banyak hal, terutamanya yang berkaitan dengan ‘mentaliti’ dan ‘sikap’ orang-orang politik. Saya rumuskan perbincangan yang berlangsung pada malam tersebut dalam beberapa perkara penting yang saya senaraikan di bawah;

1)

Lihat berita penuh dilampiran bawah).

Salam 2 all.

Wassalam.

I came across this article in the blog of brother Firdaus, Strategic Advisor to PERKIM KL.

I congratulate Brother Firdaus for his insightful outlook as to the consequences to the Catholic Church of Malaysia’s insistence that they be allowed to publish their Herald Magazine in the Malay language using ‘Allah’ as the name of their ‘God’?

I wonder whether the Catholic Church will have the guts to change their ‘Bibles’ in English to have the word ‘Allah’ replacing the term ‘God’?

Thank you Brother Firdaus for raising this matter. May Allah the Almighty bless you.

Amin!

The numerous Gods that different people and religions pray to. Gods depicted in pictures, photos and videos having hands as many as the millipedes and centipedes, noses that look exactly like an elephant’s and ears as large as an elephant’s too.

There are Gods who look more like ghosts and monsters to me but what the heck, they are still some people’s Gods. There are Gods made of stones, steel, timber, paper and and even plastic. Gods that look like clowns, etc., etc.

Then, the numerous jokes about St Peter, Noah and Abraham, well they are not Gods but Gods’ lackeys. People also make fun of Gautama Buddha; well, he’s still God to some.

People make fun of other people’s Gods, but when it comes to your turn, you become so agitated.

If you read some publications from the West, they have always, since a very long time ago, make fun of ‘Allah’ and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Many of these literature have found its way here. The most common one was about the mountain and the Prophet.

I bought a book on Islamic History in Kuala Lumpur published by Reader’s Digest some time ago and in it is shown a drawn picture of the Prophet (PBUH) full face and in full gear with his beard, no moustache and his famous gilded sword, looking at a map of areas and territories showing the spread of Islam. As a devoted and staunch Muslim, It (the picture) didn’t affect me a bit.

Did Hishammuddin or JAKIM, or the people holding the respective appointments before them, sue all these publications? No, they didn’t!

Anyway, if KDN and JAKIM and now the PM’s Dept want to file an appeal on the recent verdict on the use of ‘Allah’ by the Herald - The Catholic Weekly that didn’t come their way, fine, go ahead with it. I think the Appeals Court with a totally different set of owl-like learned judges, maybe this time with all Muslim judges, will deem the verdict wrong and say that the judge Madam Justice Lau Bee Lan had erred, and then give the benefit to the plaintiff and the whole thing will start all over again, and there will be no end and becomes fodder for us writers and bloggers both local and foreign, like you and I, for as long as the case continues.

That’s the way the Malaysian Judiciary System works, if you all had observed it carefully. The Muslims, upon hearing the new verdict, will obviously be very happy and then the Archbishop Dominic Vendargon, Archbishop Murphy Nicholas Xavier Pakiam and Father Lawrence, The Herald’s editor, will probably seek the advice of a Queen’s Counsel (QC), no, this time it will not be Mrs Blair again (though she would very much like to come to Malaysia again), and perhaps they will go all the way to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger ( Pope Benedict XVI), for a solution.

Personally, I think, this whole issue has been wrongly handled from Day 1. In the first place, it shouldn’t have gone to a Civil Court because it is an issue pertaining to religions, viz. Islam and Christianity. So, it should be handled by our Ulamaks and for them to have a dialogue with the Archbishop and his trusted senior aides and and at best, go to the Syariah Court, or any other better forum, if they exists. There, these people should try to amicably settle the issue and remain friends in the spirit of 1Malaysia. The Council of Ulamaks can then come out with a Fatwa that please the majority, otherwise, refer it to the Grand Imam at Al-Azhar, among others, for his grand opinion. We can then move on to better things after that.

I have a feeling that this is a ‘diversion’ created by people in the know and in power to sway us Malaysians, for as long as possible, from talking about and discussing more crucial issues such as the price increase in sugar and some other commodities that will be announced soon, Teoh Beng Hock’s case, where to get the money to pay government servants’ next month’s salaries (EPF, Tabung Haji, Petronas or borrow from our neighbour?), corruption involving some big fish, etc.

One day, a boy asked a Catholic Priest after completing Sunday Mass, ‘Other than praying and preaching, do you have any fun at all?’

The Priest answered,’ Nun, Nun and Nun.’ Reader’s Digest’, January 2010.

Why aren’t there any more beautiful women in Italy now and Sophia Loren, having past 80, is still considered the most beautiful woman there?

Because, the harems in Rome in the days of the Roman Empire only had men.

Best regards.

It was reported that Peter Lombard’s Four Books of Sentences recorded the following concern of Jerome, on “heresy arises from words wrongly used”.

Those remarks by St Jerome of Stridonium (d.420), who was regarded as the most learned of the Latin Fathers, clearly reflected how paramount the importance of language was for him, particularly in relation to theological matters.

The fact is, that there is a profound connection between language and reason, as words and term connote what is conceptualized or understood by the mind.

To quote Prof. Dr Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas’s latest work Tinjauan Ringkas Peri Ilmu dan Pandangan Alam (Penang:USM,2007), “bahasa merupakan alat akal fikri yang sekaligus juga mempengaruhi pemikiran si penggunanya.” That is to say, “language is the instrument of the reasoning of its users.”

For one may well ask, what is the purpose of language if not to make true meanings of words to become intelligible to the mind? And as such, what is the fundamental purpose of language if not to project the worldview of its users in a faithful manner?

Because using language correctly is a cognitive action, it is imperative for its users to be meticulous in its “correct usage” as well as in the pursuit of its “authentic meaning.”

As far as fundamental religious matters are concerned, to use language incorrectly introduces confusion to the mind of its users. Words wrongly used will inevitably impinge upon semantic change in theological concepts and the way one views reality and truth.

Hence, the pressing need to exercise constant vigilance in detecting erroneous linguistic usage.

II. The Grammar of Christian Triune God

In the Christian context, it is in order to avoid such heresy arising from the erroneous use of words and terms that St Thomas Aquinas (d.1274) said this in his Summa Theologica: “when we speak of the trinity we must proceed with care”.

As if anticipating detractors who would argue that the quest for the right words in divine matters is “toilsome”, Aquinas insisted that it was well worth the effort. St Augustine (d.430), who was arguably the most important Christian thinker after St Paul, said that in comparison to the wrong usage in theology, “nowhere is error more harmful.”

Following another eminent doctor of the Western Church, St Hilary of Poitiers (d.c 367), Aquinas advised Christians to shun the term the “singular” God, as that would exclude their notion of God whose essence their notion of God whose essence is common to the three distinct Hypotheses.

Likewise, Aquinas advised Christians to avoid the term the “only” God, as the adjective “only” (Latin unici) would take away their notion of the number of Divine Persons. In Aquinas’s words, “We do not say ‘the only God,’ for Deity is common to many”: referring to their belief that deity is common to the co-eternal Persons: the Father, the only-begotten Son, the Holy Ghost.

III. Translation of the Triune God using the term Allah: A Case of A Word Wrongly Used

Naturally, I find that there are many contradictions between what was advised by Aquinas, who was the foremost Western theologian of the Church, with the concerns of a few Malaysian Christian leaders recently highlighted in our media. While Aquinas advised his coreligionist to exclude from God the idea of “singularity” or “uniqueness”, a few Christians in Malaysia (or in any country for that matter) insist on translating their notion of a triune God by using the term ‘Allah’.

IV. “He is Allah, the Absolute One…”(al-ikhlas, 112), etc.

But there a fundamental issues that they have to address first without confusing themselves and creating linguistic anarchy, because among the firmly integral purports of the term Allah are al-Ahad (the Absolute One), al-Wahid (the Absolute Unique) and al-Witr (the Absolute Singular, the Unequalled) Who has no son, nor father, nor partner, nor likeness.

These purports have been mentioned by way of describing who Allah is in the Qur’an as well as in its interpretation by the authentic traditions of the Prophet Muhammad, who is, for that matter, considered by experts as the most eloquent of the Arabs.

In order for us to see how those worldviews are contrasted to each other, and hence to be careful in our translation, it is sufficient to compare the abovementioned statement on God by Aquinas with the following.

Commenting on the meaning of al-Wahid al-Ahad, Muhyiddin Ibn al-‘Arabi (d.1240) had simply this to say in his Futuhat Makkiyyah: “Allah is Unique, the Absolute One with respect to His godhead, there is no God (Ilah) except He.”

As far as the authentic meaning and correct usage of the term Allah throughout the ages are concerned, the Tahdhib of al-Azhari (d.980) and the Lisan al-‘Arab of Ibn Manzur (d.1311) have documented that, excepting Allah, there is no being to whom the purports of al-Wahid and al-Ahad are applicable together, or to whom al-Ahad is applicapble alone. ”Verily,I,-I alone-am Allah: there is no God (Ilah) but I: therefore worship Me” (the Qur’an, Ta Ha, 20:14).

V. Allãh is a Proper Name; God is a Common Name

That is why the term Allah is a proper name which is never shared by others throughout the history of language. The term Allah is not “communicable both in reality and in opinion”, if we want to use Aquinas’s technical terminology.

On the contrary, such terms as Ilah (God in Arabic), Tuhan (God in Malay) or God (in English) are communicable, and have indeed been used to others. Earlier, we have noted Aquinas’s assertion that the term God is common to the three Summa Theologica which explains the statement an eastern theological doctor of the Greek and Latin Churches.

VI. Allãh is a Proper Noun; God is an appellative Noun

Now, according to St John of Damascus, the term God in Greek as well as in Latin (theo) is a derivative, from either of these three root-words. It is either from a particular word which means “to cherish all things”, or from another word which means “to burn” (for the Christian God is “a consuming fire”, according to St John), or from another word which means “to consider all things”.

Marshalling his argument on that premise, Aquinas concluded that the name God in this context is not a proper noun. On the contrary, it is an appellative noun, or a title, for it signifies the divine nature in the possessor, either in the sense that He is the “Cherisher”, the “Taker of account of everything”, or the “Comprehender of everything”, and so on.

VII. Allãh Has No Plural; God’s Plural is Gods

Aquinas also corroborated his significant conclusion by the fact that the term God has plural (Gods), as in the Biblical text “God presides in heavenly council; in the assembly of the Gods he gives his decision… I have said, You are Gods” (Psalms 82.1,6).

Here, the argument on the right to translate a common noun God using the proper noun Allah crumbles; it is only correct to translate God using Tuhan. As far as the proper noun Allah is concerned, it has absolutely no plural, reflecting the notion on the One and Only God whose Essence absolutely excludes the purport of consisting of three distinct co-eternal persons, whether in the imagination, in actuality, or in supposition.

“Do not say:’Trinity’.Desist [from this assertion] it is better for you! Allah is but the Only God (Ilah Wahid); Glory be to Him-that He should have a son!” (The Qur’an, al-Nisa’,4:171)

VIII. The Proper Noun Allãh Neither Belongs to Any National Language Nor a Derivative

Furthermore, the fact that it is a proper noun alone renders erroneous the critical assumption that the term Allah belongs to a notion language and is an Arabic derivative. Indeed, for those who care enough to check the truth, such an absurd claim has long been debunked as inconsistent with the rules of the Arabic language itself by authorities like Ibn al-Barri, a-Layth and al-Khalil (d.160/777) in his Kitab al-‘Ayn.

Al-Zabidi, in his Taj al-‘Arus, remarked that “the most sound view on the name Allah is that it is a proper noun given by the Essence, the Necessary Being. The name Allah combines the attributes of Perfection altogether, it is a non-derivative word.”

Then, al-Zabidi (d.1790) quotes he authority of Ibn al’Arabi (d.1240), who stated that “the term Allah is a proper name denoting the real and true God (al-Ilah al-Haqq), a denotion that comprises all the Unique most beautiful Divine Names.”

Last but far least on the “correct usage” and “authentic meaning” of the term Allah, al-Tahanawi (d.1745), in his dictionary of the technical terms relating to metaphysics, the Kashshaf Istilahat al-Funun, stated that “it is inspired to His servants that the real name Allah is a proper name of the Essence… The verifiers (al-Muhaqqiqun) holds that the name Allah is a non-derivative word; indeed, it is an extemporized proper name (ism murtajal) as it can be described but does not describe.”

a) Perkara 11(4) Perlembagaan Persekutuan yang memperuntukkan bahawa negeri-negeri boleh mewartakan undang-undang menghalang orang-orang bukan Islam menyebarkan dakyah agama mereka kepada orang Islam Undang-undang Negeri dan mengenai Wilayah-Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur dan Labuan, undang-undang persekutuan boleh mengawal atau menyekat pengembangan apa-apa iktikad atau kepercayaan ugama antara orang-orang yang menganuti ugama Islam.;

b) Perkara 12(2) Perlembagaan Persekutuan yang memperuntukkan Kerajaan Persekutuan diberikuasa untuk mengurus dan menghulur bantuan kepada institusi Islam seperti masjid, sekolah agama dan juga bagi tujuan pembagunan syiar Islam;

Assalamualaikum.

May peace be upon you.

To all Christians of the world, I take this opportunity to wish you well on your festive occasion today.

Those of you who are celebrating today, ought to take extra precautions when being on the roads and highways of our nation.

Take this moment to foster and renew your relations with your loved ones and those who are your friends and acquaintances.

As fellow Malaysians, we ought to come together in the spirit of national unity and strengthen our community with mutual care and compassion towards one another.

We might differ in our religious beliefs but that should not be a hindrance to our coming together as one and ensure that our nation continues to be a melting pot of good natured, God fearing men and women, who have been born and bred in this blessed land.

Malaysia is unique in a sense that we can still live in relative peace and harmony. Our country has survived all these years because many of us choose to look at the positive sides of life although we might at times see slight differences of opinion and standpoints.

At the end of the day, we still need to come to the understanding that God Almighty created us all into various tribes and races not that we may bicker continuously amongst us but to come together as His Servants whom He has blessed with the goodness in our spirits and our hearts.

This natural inborn spirit of goodness exists in all of us and those who lose it along their journeys of life can rediscover it if they make the effort to stop for a moment and ponder upon their choices?

As a Malaysian Muslim, I choose to live in peace and harmony with all of you, my fellow bloggers and fellow Malaysians, be you my fellow Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, Orang Asli’s, etcetera.

We all have a choice, dear brothers and sisters.

We all originate from Our Father the Prophet Adam (Alaihis Salam ~ may peace be upon him) and Our Mother Sayyidatina Hawwa @ Eve (Radhiallahu Anha ~ upon her be Allah’s Blessings).

Just like the various colors of the rose, we differ in the color of our skin, eye color, physical attributes and general make up of our selfs yet we are all technically the same in our being human beings.

I respect and appreciate the spirit of giving that has come to be associated with Christmas. That is a very good act that will foster goodwill amongst mankind.

In order for us to co-exist in peace and harmony as fellow Malaysians and the general Family of Mankind as brothers and sisters in this earthly life, I call upon you, my dear reader to wish each other well and come to understand that Our Lord Almighty wishes us well as per His Revelation here :

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
In the Name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

25. But give glad tidings to those who believe and work righteousness, that their portion is the Gardens (Paradise) beneath which rivers flow. Every time they are fed with fruits therefrom, They say: “Why, this is what we were fed with before,” For they are given things in similitude; And they have therein Companions pure (and holy); And they abide therein (for ever).

82. Strongest among men in enmity to the believers wilt thou find the Jews and Pagans; and nearest among them in love to the believers wilt thou find those who say, “We are Christians”: because amongst these are men devoted to learning and men who have renounced the world, and they are not arrogant.

Let us try our best to look for things that are common between us and learn to live and let live instead of getting embroiled in unnecessary conflicts between us. We can if we really want to?

You can start by visiting here and read up about it. We can all benefit by learning about each other better.

Knowledge is power and those who are learned will surely stand a better chance of living in God’s Way and not be amongst those who are engulfed in Ignorance.

Na’uzubillah! May God Forbid!

Have a joyous day with your loved ones and be safe on the roads.

On behalf of The Muslim Bloggers Alliance, I wish you all well.

May God bless and guide us all.

Ameen.
